Along the Road

Here's a scene of cats lounging on a gateway somewhere along a back road in New Mexico during our Thanksgiving trip. Back here at home, Luna is not feeling as carefree as these cats. She's at the vet waiting to be put under to have her teeth cleaned and she's not happy. The all-night fast from food or water made her very upset. She kept looking at me like"why aren't you feeding me? Where's my water? What's going on???" Bringing in the cat cage didn't help the situation. She bolted for the cat door but I caught her in time. Now we just have to wait till 2 or so to pick her up.

Flatirons

I took the back roads to Boulder one morning and got a good view of the Flatirons, the large jagged peaks that stand as a backdrop to Boulder. It hadn't snowed yet so the mountains were rather bare. As you go along this back road to Boulder, the road winds past the lower foothills, always appealing to me with their patterns of light and shadow. We had a small snow last night so everything is probably looking even prettier today.

We have had a few good sunsets lately and here are a few from the other evening looking west toward the mountains.

Milkweed

We are still experiencing an unusually warm fall. It looks like early October out there. Here's a milkweed - an interesting plant. The seeds have ripened and are ready to fly. As a child we used to peel back the green cover of the pods before they were ripe to gather the shiny bundle of seeds inside that we called silver fish.
