Hiking around the lake

It's about a 3 mile circuit around, and the wind had a bit of a bite to it. Ice piled up around the edges in chunks, but the center area of the lake still had some open water, filled with hundreds of geese (Canada Geese) . As the sun started to go down they lifted off in noisy small groups, executing giant fly-by circles over the lake, gathering a few strays along the way, and then heading off to the east for their night time resting area, wherever it may be. A storm hovered over the mountains to the west.

scenes from the mill - february

Now that sunset occurs later I decided to go back to the mill and take more photos. Too bad the batteries on the camera ran out before the sun did. But I got some interesting photos.

Caucus night

It was exciting! Chaotic! Confusing! But we did it. Last time our precinct had only 5 people show up. This time - 43! The vote went 3-1 Obama over Clinton at least in our little group. People were definitely motivated and enthusiastic. We will see how the totals in Colorado are later this evening.

another sunset

Another sunset from last weekend. Love that pink against the blue.

Flowers in the SNow

A nice day today - blue sky, in the 20's and a fresh dusting of new snow. Walking about was quite pleasant, looking at the flowers and grasses from last summer with their latest coats of snow. There was one sad rose still retaining a little color from it's prime, surrounded by dead branches and shriveled leaves, but still hanging on boldly.

Meanwhile - today is Super Tuesday, caucus day for our state, primary voting day for others. Everyone - don't forget to vote!

More tracks

Work has been very hectic lately so I haven't had a chance to get out and look at things. Also it has been very cold for the last week with strong chilling winds. Last night BBC news (USA version)featured a segment on the super early spring that's occurring in Great Britain. Daffodils and crocus are coming up and trees are sprouting a month or more early, which is very disturbing to climate scientists. Happily (or sadly depending on whether I am tired of winter) early spring does not appear to be happening here, at least not yet. Yesterday we had a light snowfall and it has warmed up some and so I went out to see what tracks I could find- but nothing too interesting was there. Bird track are cute, though.
